Believe it or not the summer is almost over. Like most of us if we have kids, we gauge our summers by the time our kids are home while school is out. So, as of today, schools start in
Surviving The Pandemic Part 2
Dated: September 10 2020
The letter “F”
As everyone knows, surviving the pandemic is not easy. A couple of weeks ago I posted about how keeping my mind active was a great help to me. At the time I was talking about rediscovering my joy of reading. (Humble brag, I have finished 2 more books since then.) Some of the other things that have been helping me all start with the letter F.
Family – I put that first because of how important it is. My wife and I are empty nesters and as such, it is just us a lot of the time. I believe her and I have gotten closer over the last months. We talk more. I sit on the patio with her, and sometimes I take her with me to work on the weekend. Whenever my girls come home, it is always a good time. Sitting together at the dinner table, playing a board game, or watching Harry Potter, I cherish these times. I also was able to sell my niece a condo this summer. I enjoyed working with her and my sister. It did make me feel a little old though. My best friend is more family than friend and spending time with him and his family is always a good thing.
Fun – I try to laugh and smile whenever I can. Have fun, none of us are guaranteed tomorrow. If it is playing that board game, playing with the dog, or telling my wife a “dad” joke I always try to laugh at least once a day. Sounds corny but trust me on this. I always say worrying is my superpower, but I believe in my heart that laughter will heal your soul.
Faith – First, everyone should know this is not a religious or political post. I have my opinions like everyone else does, but I choose to keep those very private. I have faith. Faith that my routines have helped keep me sane. My routine that I eat the same dinner every Monday and Wednesday. My routine that I go to the gym 3 times a week, always the same 3 days. I have a work routine, a home routine, and yes, a sleeping routine. In a time when every day seems like every other day, routines help. Faith in my family and friends, that (as trite as it sounds), we are in this together and we will be ok. Faith in the system that the people we trust to help us, will help us. That includes, politicians, health care professionals and law enforcement. Faith in God. I am a Christian and I do believe. I am not perfect, but I love the Lord and I believe he is with us every day. Finally, faith in us. Faith in people and society in general. I believe that society will persevere and that we will see the other side. I believe that we will be stronger, better people because of what we are going through. I believe that because I have faith.
